About Gangtok

The name Gangtok probably derived from the most popular meaning the "Hill top" but otherwise the actual meaning of Gangtok is not known. The City of Gangtok is situated at altitude of 1,437 meters (4,715 feet) near the Shivalik Hills of the Eastern Himalayan range. The City of Gangtok is the centre of Sikkim's Tourism Industry and a largest capital of Indian state of Sikkim. The major Gangtok population speaks Hindi and Nepali and the Gangtok population is approximately about thirty thousand with different language speaking people such as Nepali, Bhutia and Lepchas and is administered by many departments, Gangtok information can be obtained at the Government of Sikkim.
